Facades & Fiascos: Author Interview

                                                           Facades   &    Fiascos

                                          Author Interview

                                                                                Author: Isaiah J.

Can you tell where you got the inspiration for this book?
Answer: There are a couple themes in my book, so a couple of inspirations. However, I got the
idea for the biggest concept, which is Nesta meeting the ghost of his wife, from the legend of
Resurrection Mary, a dancing ghost in Chicago.

- Is the story or any part of it inspired from your or a friend's life?
Answer: Not technically, only thing I would say is the first scene of Nesta dancing with his wife.
Admittedly I’m a sucker for love, so I just wrote the dream of mine to have a wife and love like
that. I forgot who said it, but “to write, you just sit down and bleed.” That’s what I did there.

-Which character from your book do you relate yourself to most?
Answer: Camila, she has that same hope, and child-like wonder I hold.

- When was the first time you realized you wanted to be an author? Is this the first book you started working on or are there previous unfinished or unpublished stories too?
Answer: Back whenever I was fourteen or so, I wrote my first novel to impress a girl. We never
got together, but I fell in love with writing. I never published that work, but it taught me I could
actually become an author. I’m an ambitious risk taker so I just said why not go for it? Now its
all I want to be.

-What was the most difficult thing you faced writing this book?
Answer: The. Publishing. Process. I had no idea what I was doing, and there are so many things
I’m going to do different next time. I was 19, basically starting a small business. Getting
Copyrights, setting prices, and talking with professional editors and such. Terrifying.

-When did you start writing Facades and Fiascos? How long did the whole process take?

Answer: To my own surprise January 4, 2020 is when I wrote my first note. I just checked my
notebook and found the original concept for the book. It is drastically different. So about 10
months to get through the whole process, I thought I was going to put it on pause once COVID-
19 started, but I was blessed and my personal finances remained stable.

-Lastly Is there any book you're working on right now? Can you tell a little about it?
Answer: I got two projects I’m working on. One is a bit more serious story that questions
the limitations of redemption. The other is a more lighthearted
